ABOUT VIRGINIA PERLOW:
It has been said that the good we do dies with us but that is not the case for Virginia “Ginny” Perlow. The good she did in life will be carried on now that she is gone. Ginny was a generous, caring woman who was first to assist if family or friends were ill. Her healing touch, soft voice and sparkling smile were good medicine. Her laughter and strong spirit sustained her through her personal challenges with ALS. Her resolve was to make every day a good one. It is with this in mind that her son, Jason has formed a fund that will pay for medical equipment needed by ALS patients who either do not have insurance, have limited coverage, or are experiencing a delay in receiving a piece of equipment. Ginny’s family hopes that by lifting the financial burden associated with ALS, others will be able to improve their quality of life. |

PROGRAM INFORMATION:
The Medical Equipment Program will provide the following:
1) The evaluation and identification of patients’ needs for everything from small items such as utensil grips, dressing aides, walkers and bath benches, to full body lifts, wheelchairs, ramps, and assistive communication devices and adaptations that can preserve energy and independence; and
2) A loan pool of primarily used equipment that can be lent to patients if other sources are not available.
All equipment owned by the chapter will be available on a nondiscriminatory priority basis to those who have no insurance, lack coverage for a particular item, or are experiencing a delay in getting their equipment. Having ALS is the only prerequisite necessary in order to be eligible to utilize the program. In an effort to maximize the benefit of the pool to all patients, the availability of equipment from other resources will first be determined.
For more information about the program, please contact Nicole Sammartino, M.S., Patient Services Coordinator.
