Advanced ALS Caregiver Boot Camp
Advanced Boot Camp was developed for Caregivers who are currently caring for loved ones with ALS and are ready to discuss the advanced care needs associated with the later stages of the disease. Topics addressed include:
- Care for the individual who is losing mobility or communication abilities
- Nutrition options for the individual who cannot or chooses not to eat
- Breathing support including ventilation options
- Knowing when to transition to hospice
- Difficulties of bereavement
The Advanced Boot Camp was developed in response to the request of Caregivers for a higher-level discussion on the difficult roles and conversations Caregivers are finding themselves in, feeling vulnerable and unprepared. This Boot Camp may not be for everyone, as the nature of the topics may elicit difficult emotions. For anyone who attends, we do have a Licensed Clinical Social Worker available for any follow-up support needed post-Boot Camp.
For registration or any questions regarding this Advanced Boot Camp, please contact Kellie Branch-Dircks, LCSW, 309-696-7184, kellie@alsachicago.org.
